Grammar Way Book 3
Grammar Way Book 3 is the third level of the Grammar Way series: the grammar reference and practice course for upper-intermediate learners, where the English verb system comes fully into view and the sentence grows its subordinate clauses.
The series’ method carries the level — theory presented in clear boxes and tables, then practised in exercise after exercise until the form is a reflex — applied now to the perfect and progressive aspects in their full interplay, the passive, conditionals of every kind, reported speech, and the infinitive and -ing choices that govern real sentences.
It is written for learners at B2 and the teachers who guide them: the level of first-certificate examinations, of English-medium study beginning, and of the self-teacher who wants the whole system in one dependable volume.

Every grammar series has a hinge level, where the learner stops surviving the language and starts commanding it; in Grammar Way that hinge is Book 3. The groundwork of the first two books — the core tenses, the question and negation machinery, the noun system — is assumed, and the book spends its pages on the structures that decide upper-intermediate success: aspect chosen deliberately, conditionals mixed and inverted in embryo, speech reported with backshift judged, the passive used for register rather than decoration. The theory spreads keep the series’ clarity — the rule, the table, the cautionary note — and the exercises keep its abundance, moving each structure from recognition through controlled production to contextualised use. Examination candidates adopt it because first-certificate grammar lives here; teachers set it because its answer key makes homework self-marking; self-teachers trust it because finishing it is measurable — the day the exercises stop being difficult is the day B2 becomes real.

About This Book
Grammar Way is the four-level course that teaches English grammar the durable way — a clear theory spread, then practice in depth — and Book 3 is its upper-intermediate storey: the level at which the system’s remaining great structures are handed over to the learner.
What Learners Will Study
Aspect in Full
The perfect and progressive aspects alone and in combination, present perfect against past simple in their eternal border dispute, the past perfect ordering narratives, futures in their several forms — the tense system completed as a system of choices.
Conditionals and Reported Speech
The conditional family entire — real, unreal, mixed, and the inversions that formal English keeps in reserve — and reported speech with its backshift, its reporting verbs, and its questions and commands, the two structures examinations weigh most heavily at this level.
The Passive and the Verb Patterns
The passive across tenses and registers, and the verb-pattern grammar — infinitive or -ing, with the meaning changes that hang on the choice — plus the causative and the participle clauses that begin to give the learner’s writing its adult compression.
Key Features
The hinge position is the feature: Book 3 assumes the foundations and builds the superstructure, wasting no pages re-teaching. The theory-box clarity is the second, and the exercise depth the third — every structure practised to the point of reflex, with an answer key throughout.
Who This Book Is For
It is for upper-intermediate learners (B2), first-certificate and similar examination candidates, students preparing for English-medium courses, teachers of B2 classes, and self-teachers climbing the series.
How to Use This Book
Follow the series’ rhythm: theory spread, exercises in order, key consulted after — never during — each set, and errors logged by structure so revision aims itself. Examination candidates should revisit the conditional and reported-speech units under time pressure near the test. Finish the book and its theory boxes become your reference for every later level.
